Free Fire OB54 Update Is Live — Here’s Everything That Changed

Nine years. That’s how long Free Fire has been dropping players onto an island and making them fight for that sweet Booyah. And to celebrate its 9th anniversary, Garena didn’t just add a few cosmetics and call it a day. The Free Fire OB54 update — officially dropping on June 23, 2026 — is one of the most content-heavy patches we’ve seen in a long time.

Skill Boosts for 8 characters. A Weapon Awakening system. On-the-Spot Revival. An entirely new Party Lobby. A brand new in-game area replacing Factory on Bermuda. Weapon buffs, nerfs, and balance changes. Map removals. Match Reviews.

Yeah. It’s a lot.

This breakdown covers everything — the gameplay changes, the meta impact, and what you need to know before you drop in. Let’s get into it.

What Is the Free Fire OB54 Update?

Every few months, Garena releases a major Open Beta (OB) update that reshapes the game. These are the biggest patches in Free Fire — they bring new characters, weapons, modes, and events. OB updates always align with a collaborative or themed event, and this time it’s built entirely around the 9th Anniversary celebration.

The Free Fire OB54 patch focuses specifically on match pacing. Garena’s stated goal: make the early game feel more varied, give the mid-game more objectives, and ensure the late game provides a continuous sense of growth. That’s not marketing speak — the changes actually reflect this philosophy across the board.

9th Anniversary Features in Battle Royale

Anniversary Quests — New Early-Game Objectives

One of the biggest complaints about Free Fire BR has always been the “dead zone” between landing and the mid-game rotation. OB54 directly addresses this.

During the 9th Anniversary event, each map area randomly generates one quest. After landing, players can accept the quest through Vending Machines or dedicated quest points, then complete it with teammates to earn generous rewards.

There are three quest types:

 • Collect Fragments — Shoot and collect Anniversary Fragments scattered around to build a complete Anniversary Crystal
 • Reforge the Sword — Capture the Knight’s Sword with your squad and gradually restore it
 • Coins in the Air — Use jump pads to grab floating coins

Quest rewards include team-wide buffs, Coin Machines refreshing in the area, Vending Machine discounts, upgraded Revival Points, and high-value ground loot. This is a genuinely smart addition — it gives landing-winners a reason to hold ground rather than immediately rotate, and gives underdog squads something to contest.

Skill Boost — The Biggest Meta Shaker in OB54

This is the one that’s going to flip the meta.

In BR mode, players earn Skill Boost Energy by surviving, dealing damage, and scoring eliminations. Once the progress bar is full, they can choose a Skill Boost to enhance their character skill. Skill Boosts are currently available for Alok, Koda, Homer, Chrono, Kassie, Skyler, Wukong, and Oscar.

Each character gets two Boost options — one that upgrades the base ability, and one that adds a completely new effect. Here are the standout ones:

Chrono — Time Veil / Time Drift With Time Veil, enemies outside the force field can no longer see what is happening inside. This allows Chrono users to reposition, peek, and pressure opponents with greater unpredictability — blocking 1000 DMG. Time Drift lets the force field move with the user and blocks 600 DMG, with the option to anchor it in place.

Wukong — Camo Decoy / Cloned Camo Camo Decoy leaves a moving Wukong decoy at the original location — the decoy disappears after taking 10 DMG or after 10s. Cloned Camo transforms into a bush while creating two extra bushes, lasting 10s.

Skyler — Sticky Rhythm / Split Rhythm Sticky Rhythm creates a small area that sticks to the target enemy and deals damage over time to any Gloo Walls inside it — meaning you can now chase someone’s cover with Skyler’s ability. Split Rhythm lets Skyler search for Gloo Walls within 75m and launch split waves that deal damage to up to 3 walls simultaneously.

Homer — UAV Shockwave / Super Drone UAV Shockwave performs an additional scan when the drone hits an enemy, exposing nearby opponents on the minimap for 5 seconds. Super Drone launches an enhanced drone and lets the user glide with a 15% speed boost for 15 seconds.

If you play ranked mode, you need to understand these before your next match. Check our Free Fire best skill combo guide to start thinking about new combinations this patch opens up.

Weapon Awakening — Infinite Ammo Late Game

A new Upgrade Chip called the Weapon Awakener is entering matches. Use it on a weapon to awaken it and turn it into one of the most powerful weapons on the battlefield. Awakened weapons receive overall enhancements with one stat receiving an additional bonus, and they have unlimited ammo — except for grenade weapons.

Players can obtain Weapon Awakeners from upgraded Arsenals, and when only 10 players remain in the match, all surviving players automatically receive one Weapon Awakener.

This is a massive late-game swing mechanic. Think about it — an awakened M82B with unlimited ammo and a damage bonus? That last circle just got way more chaotic.

On-the-Spot Revival

On-the-Spot Revival adds a new option to revive a teammate immediately at their current location without needing a Revival Point or Vending Machine. Each player can be revived on the spot once, reviving takes 10 seconds, and the feature becomes unavailable after the 4th Safe Zone.

This is a huge tactical addition, especially for aggressive squads. If your teammate goes down in a bad rotation, you can now choose between a fast on-the-spot revive or a safer run to the Revival Point. Smart teams will use this to maintain pressure.

9th Anniversary Party Venue

Factory on Bermuda will be temporarily replaced by the 9th Anniversary Party Venue. With a new layout and visual design, the venue offers a refreshed combat space.

Factory has been one of the most contested drop spots in Bermuda for years. Expect the new venue’s layout to shake up landing rotations significantly during the anniversary period.

Character Balance Changes in OB54

Nero — Nerfed (Again)

Despite two rounds of nerfs in the previous patch, Nero continues to perform exceptionally well. His plushie HP has been reduced from 150 to 1 HP, making it much easier to destroy and giving opponents more room to respond. The Gloo Wall damage inside his dreamy space has also been reduced from 10 to 6 HP/s.

Honestly fair. The 150 HP plushie was borderline impossible to deal with in close quarters.

Chrono — Buffed

Chrono’s skill cooldown has been reduced from 60 to 45 seconds. Combined with his new Skill Boost options, Chrono might actually be viable in ranked play again. He’s been dormant for a couple of seasons — this could bring him back.

Oscar — Nerfed

Oscar’s cooldown increases from 45 to 60 seconds. His short cooldown let him excel in too many situations — rotations, engagements, escapes, and pushes — leaving little room for other mobility skills to compete.

If you main Oscar, plan your dashes more deliberately now. He’s still strong, but you can’t spam him.

Maro — Nerfed

Maro’s damage scaling at range has been reduced from 25% to 20%. Still a great passive skill, just toned down slightly.

Nikita — Nerfed

Nikita’s reload speed bonus has been reduced from 30% to 20%. M590 + Nikita was genuinely oppressive in close range — this was needed.

Olivia — Buffed

Olivia’s healing spread to teammates within range has been improved from 80% to 90%, and the range has increased from 15m to 20m. Long overdue — Olivia struggled to compete with other support options. If you run a support role in CS, give her another look.

Weapon and Balance Changes in OB54

Major Weapon Buffs

Four weapons got significant upgrades and a rarity bump to Gold tier:

 • PARAFAL — Armor Penetration +5%
 • MP40 — Armor Penetration +10%, Accuracy +5%, Weapon Switch Speed +25%
 • M590 — Headshot falloff range +15%, Weapon Switch Speed +20%
 • M82B — Damage +6%, Armor Penetration +10%, Range +20%

These weapons are also being added to Basic Arsenal outputs, while Groza, AWM, FAMAS, and Charge Buster are being removed from Arsenals.

The M82B buff is massive. More damage, more penetration, and more range makes it even more dangerous at long range. Pair it with the Weapon Awakener and you have a late-game beast.

Clash Squad Price Adjustments

 • M1887: 1900 → 1800 CS Cash (cheaper!)
 • Woodpecker: 2000 → 1900 CS Cash (cheaper!)
 • PARAFAL: 1500 → 1600 CS Cash (more expensive due to buff)
 • M590: 1500 → 1600 CS Cash

Map Changes

Bermuda 2.0 and Alpine have been removed from the game entirely. This will be controversial — many players had grown attached to both. Bermuda 2.0 in particular had its fans.

Other map changes:

 • All ziplines removed from Kalahari in CS mode
 • Barriers added near the spawn point at Solara Hub in CS
 • Improved window-jumping across multiple buildings
 • Edge exploits on Nurek Dam bridge and Grav Labs exterior stairs have been patched

Other Major System Updates

BR Match Review

After completing a BR-Ranked or custom match, players can now watch a full review from the results screen or match history, including key events, movement routes, enemy activity, and a full-match enemy heatmap. Match review videos can also be shared to external platforms.

This is one of those features that separates Free Fire from other mobile BRs. If you want to improve your rank, use the match review to see exactly where you lost, where enemies were, and what went wrong.

9th Anniversary Party Lobby

The brand-new Party Lobby features three main areas: Anniversary Area, Arena Showdown (1v1 duels), and Dance Party. A new minigame called Saddle Brawl has two players form a team on a unicycle to compete for victory.

Other QoL Improvements

 • Scaling damage numbers — higher damage hits now display larger numbers
 • Fixed reload sound mismatches for AK47, Kar98k, Desert Eagle, M1873, and others
 • Ammo auto-pickup logic improved
 • Assist for self-reviving teammates now available
 • New debuff status displays when inflicting or receiving Slow or Healing Reduction
 • Maximum movement speed cap added — speed boosts can no longer stack infinitely
